Every year, thousands of pastors are forced from their ministries, many never to return. Studies reveal that forced terminations, once having occurred in a local church, often repeat themselves in the same church, demonstrating a pattern of dysfunction and difficulty within those fellowships. In Toxic Church, Creech examines how the patterns of family dysfunction find their way into the life of the local church, often producing severe conflict, causing division, enabling sin, and even ending the ministry of the pastor and possibly even the local church. Additionally, Creech outlines a plan for recognizing dysfunction within the church family, diagnosing the root causes of that dysfunction, and taking steps to protect the church and the pastor from what many now call the epidemic caused by toxic churches and the clergy killers within them.

As someone who has never aspired to be more than a faithful Christian, the case studies presented in Toxic Church were unsettling, to say the least. I would never have identified the Church as a potential hostile workplace. Why would members of a congregation be so destructive? Dr. Creech does an excellent job laying it all out and explaining how to deal with such situations. More importantly, he discusses the measures that should be taken to prevent the destructive personalities from gaining control of Church leadership in the first place. I have no idea what courses are taught in Seminary, but there should be a required course that is built around this book. For those that have already read Toxic Church, I was on the other side of one of those dormitory doors Chris knocked on during fraternity rush. He had already saved the Fraternity, but was continuing to rebuild it when he and his Brothers came to my dormitory. Ultimately, I pledged the Fraternity due in great part to his leadership and dedication. It was not a surprise that he went into the Ministry and no less of a surprise to learn where his path has led as a missionary and leader.

Toxic Church Why the ChurchPastor Relationship Sours and the Simple Biblical Solution Chris Creech 9780692272558 Books Reviews
In his book TOXIC CHURCH, Chris Creech has provided a clear voice, amazing understanding, invaluable tool and astonishing hope for weary or wounded spiritual leaders who have come face to face with the clergy killer. This is a must-read!
This was one of the most useful and informative books I've ever read. It is a must read for everyone who is involved in leadership in the church. It not only states the problems and conflicts but gives common sense directions (in alignment with God's Word) on how to overcome destructive situations in the church.
Great book for all kinds of leaders and followers in the world. You may know how to deal confliction in your world.
Wow. Yeah. Preachers and church boards everywhere need to read this. Keep your church from dying spiritually.
I am one of the people whose experience prompted Chris to write the book. His writings are a must read for anyone involved in Christian ministry. I am thinking about getting a copy for the pastor of the church I am currently attending.
I would recommend this book to any pastor, administrator of a parachute organization or Christian counselor. Highly insightful into a topic most cultures are unaware of. Having been beaten up a few times in ministry, this book helps me figure life out
Great book! Should be required reading for any person entering the ministry. I also highly recommend Pastor Abusers by Kent Crockett. We have been in ministry for over 30 years, serving about one dozen "churches". Most "churches" are badly run dysfunctional social clubs that are a haven for bullies, perverts, moral degenerates, and various assorted evil screwballs. Though 90% of parishioners are fairly decent people they will usually allow the evil psychos free reign to continually abuse and torture ministers and their families. Threats of violence from crazy, evil parishioners are not uncommon. Some clergy even get permits to carry a weapon to protect themselves and their families. This is probably the worst profession any one should enter. Please, if you are thinking of being a minister, read these two books!
